Corene Lyon

Corene “Rene” Lyon was born on November 18, 1948, and departed this life on March 26, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the 6th of 8 children born to William and Ella Lyon. Born and raised in Washington, D.C. she attended school and graduated from Spingarn High School in 1966. Corene was employed by Pepco where she held a position as an Accountant until she retired in 2005. She was a faithful member of Reid Temple A.M.E. Church until she was no longer able to attend.

Always an independent, strong, active, resourceful, and beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, partner and friend, Corene’s beautiful smile and laughter lit up our souls. To know her, was to be loved by her. She touched the lives of so many people across multiple generations. During her time with us, she made a point to always help anyone with whatever she could, never second-guessing her decision. Anyone who knows Corene, knows that her family meant everything to her and in her eyes, each of you reading this was family or you wouldn't be here. Corene was a true lover of life; she was a humorous storyteller, loyal friend and dedicated to her family. She was one of a kind.

Corene leaves behind her loving life partner Gerald, siblings Lisa, Mary (Joseph), Richard (Carolyn), Irene her twin, Ronnie (Cheri), Carolyn and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Corene was such a light in this sometimes-dark world, and she will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
